Photo & Moto Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains how Photo & Moto ("we" or "our"), a hobby publication operating from Finland, handles data, particularly relating to public figures and visitors to our website. We are committed to transparency and respect for privacy, and we operate in full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Finnish data protection legislation.
What we do
Photo & Moto is a hobby publication born from passion, sharing news, analysis and commentary about sports figures and related topics, especially motorsport. Our goal is to provide our readers with interesting and informative content while always adhering to ethical journalistic practices.
The information we use and where it comes from
As a hobby publication, our content is based primarily on publicly available information about public figures such as athletes, celebrities and politicians. We gather this from public sources, including but not limited to:
Official statements: Releases issued by sports clubs, federations, PR agencies or the public figures themselves.
Reputable news sources: Information already published by established and reliable news organisations.
Public social media accounts: Posts, comments and profiles of public figures on platforms such as X (Twitter), Instagram or Facebook that are visible to everyone.
Public registers and databases: Information available to the public by law (for example statistics and published biographies).
Public events: Observations and information gathered by attending and following public occasions such as races, press conferences or public appearances.
To be clear: we do not actively collect personal data directly from private individuals through our website, beyond what is necessary for the site to function (such as comments) or for basic analytics.
How we use information in our content
Information gathered from public sources is used solely to create content, which means:
Reporting and analysis: We provide fact-based accounts and our own interpretation of events involving public figures and their activities.
Commentary and opinion: We share our perspectives on current topics concerning public figures.
Providing context: We use past publicly available information to help you understand current events better.
Ensuring accuracy: We cross-reference information across several public sources to confirm that what we publish is correct.
We never use this information for direct marketing, for building commercial profiles, or for any purpose unrelated to our hobby publishing activity.
Our use of AI in content production
You may be interested to know that we sometimes use AI tools to help with content production. This always happens under human supervision and within strict ethical guidelines:
AI as an assistant: AI may be used to help produce initial drafts, summarise information, brainstorm ideas, or simply make grammatical and stylistic improvements.
Research support: AI tools can quickly work through publicly available information to help us find relevant facts and trends.
Always reviewed by a human: This matters a great deal: all AI-generated or AI-assisted content is thoroughly reviewed, fact-checked and edited by a human editor before publication. We are committed to the accuracy, fairness and originality of what we publish. We do not publish AI-generated content without human review and approval.
Guarding against errors and bias: We know that AI models can sometimes produce inaccuracies ("hallucinations") or reflect biases originating in their training data. Our human review process is designed to catch and correct such problems, keeping our content truthful and impartial.
Data protection when using AI: When we use AI tools, we make sure that personal data collected directly from website visitors (for example comment data) is not fed into or used to train these models in any way that could compromise privacy or breach the GDPR. Our use of AI is focused on processing publicly available information for journalistic purposes.
Our policy on photographs and our own content
Photographs are an essential part of Photo & Moto's content, and we adhere strictly to copyright law and ethical standards in how we use images:
Our own work: A significant proportion of the photographs and other visual or written content on www.photoandmoto.fi is our own work, created by members of the Photo & Moto team.
Copyright-free material: We use images and other material that are explicitly in the public domain or licensed under Creative Commons Zero (CC0) or comparable terms permitting free use without attribution.
Licensed material: For other photographs or content, we obtain explicit licences or permissions from third-party rights holders (photographers, image banks, authors and so on) before using them in our publication.
Our content and copyright: All original content produced by Photo & Moto, including our photographs, articles and analysis, is our intellectual property and is protected by copyright under Finnish and international law. Unauthorised use, copying, distribution or modification of our content for any private or public purpose is strictly prohibited without our prior written consent.
Usage requests: If you would like to use any of our content, including photographs, please send us a request by email at photoandmoto@gmail.com. We handle requests on a case-by-case basis.
Attribution: Whatever the source, we always aim to give appropriate credit for photographs and other content we use, naming the author or source where necessary or appropriate.
Information we may collect from website visitors
When you visit www.photoandmoto.fi, we may collect a limited amount of technical information:
Usage data: This may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring pages, the pages you visit on our site, the date and time of your visit, and other statistical information. This is collected using Google Analytics 4, which is loaded only if you have given your consent in the cookie banner. If you do not accept analytics, Google Analytics is never loaded and collects nothing about you. The data is used to understand how our website is used and to improve how it works.
Cookies: The site sets no cookies at all for a visitor who is not logged in and has not given consent. On your first visit we show a cookie banner where you can accept Google Analytics or continue with essential cookies only. Google Analytics 4, which sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies, is loaded only after you accept. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage (pm_cookie_consent) rather than in a cookie, and you can change it at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer. If you withdraw your consent, Google Analytics is switched off and its cookies are deleted. Administrators receive a session cookie, pm_session, when they log in. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and collects no personal data.
Comments: If you choose to leave comments on our articles, we collect the information shown in the comment form together with your IP address and browser user-agent details to help prevent spam.
Our commitment to privacy and ethical publishing
Accuracy: We work to ensure that the information we publish is accurate and thoroughly verified against reliable public sources. Where errors are found, we correct them promptly.
Minimising harm: Although public figures have a reduced expectation of privacy, we aim to report responsibly and to avoid unnecessary intrusion into their private lives, particularly on sensitive matters with no clear public interest.
Transparency: We are open about our sources and our usual methods of gathering information, including our use of AI tools under human supervision.
Copyright: We respect intellectual property rights. We use copyrighted material only where we have permission, where the material is explicitly licensed for reuse, or where our use falls within the right of quotation.
No commercial sharing: We do not sell or share personal data collected from website visitors with third parties for commercial purposes.
